The Feast of St. John the Baptist

Poster

In the 7th century, Saint Eligius warned against midsummer activities and encouraged new converts to avoid them in favor of the celebration of St. John the Baptist’s birth. He proclaimed: “No Christian on the feast of Saint John should dance or leap or engage in diabolical chanting.” We mean no disrespect to St. Eligius, but we intend to recognize the solstice as we embrace the Baptist. We intend to engage in some dancing and leaping, maybe not quite diabolical, but certainly some chanting.

Square Dance, Feasting and the ancient bone fire liturgy. Sunday, June 17, 5pm.
