The Lectionary
|
At House of Mercy we preach from the lectionary--usually the Gospel reading. So if you would like to read the text for the sermon ahead of time, just look it up. The word lectionarium, in a wider sense, may be applied to any liturgical book containing passages to be read aloud at the Mass. In a stricter sense, however, the Lection arium, also known as Comes, Liber comitis, Liber comicus (from comes, companion), is a liturgical book containing the daily lessons from the Old Testament, the Epistles from the New Testament, and portions of the Gospels to be read during the Mass. A schedule of readings from Holy Scripture for use in the weekly liturgy. In current use are both an historic, one-year lectionary with readings that have been in use for centuries, and a more recently developed three-year lectionary (we use the Revised Common Lectionary which is a three-year lectionary and the most widely used among Protestant Christians) |

The Lectionary Year B 11/27/05 - 11/25/06
( 2 items )
Year B of the Lectionary cycle focuses on the Gospel of Mark. Because of the nature of this Gospel howev er (there is no birth narrative, no post-resurection appearances, it ends in desertion, a lot of seemingly dark stuff....) the lectionary makers do use a lot of Mark, skipping a lot of the seemingly dark stuf, and inserting John or Luke to fill out the calendar. At HOM, we think it is valuable to read the whole book; so we have decided in 2006 to follow an All Mark Lectionary. Both the Revised Common and the All Mark are included hear.
