Confessional Resistance: Why We Do This
“To fail to speak of evil in the world today is to engage in bad
theology. But to speak of "they" being evil and "we" being good, to say
that evil is all out there and that in the warfare between good and
evil others are either with us or against us—that is also bad theology.”
- Jim Wallis
“We are asked whether we are working for the righteous inner peace
which cannot lead to war, or whether we are contributing to a rotten
and unjust peace which contains the seeds of war.”
- Karl Barth
House of Mercy will spend this liturgical year (12/2/07 – 11/30/08)
examining the human propensity to draw these kinds of lines, develop
these bad theologies and the ways in which they foster violence at
every level, from the personal to the political—simultaneously
exploring the idea of “confessional resistance” as a way to begin to
dismantle these bad theologies in our lives and our nation.
How will we do this?

pertaining to war, peace, violence, reconciliation, etc.
